Hi,

We are using TCAN1043-Q1 in the design. In the datasheet, for the local faults it is provided that the nFault pin will be low only when IC is transitioned from Normal mode to silent mode. Which means, the processor/microcontroller should make Enable low and make the IC to transition to silent mode and poll the Fault pin status at recurring intervals? or fault pin will be immediately set low by CAN IC when a fault has occurred in Normal mode/silent mode?

Especially for these faults

1)TXD dominant timeout

2)RXD recessive fault

3)TXD short to RXD

    The fault detection capability of TCAN1043 will depend on which fault is present. For instance, TXD related faults (TXDDTO and TXDRXD) and CAN bus faults can only be detected while the device is transmitting in normal mode. RXD timeouts can be detected whenever the device is receiving, and TSD can technically occur in any mode, though normal mode while driving is the most likely as this is the highest power state for the device. Changing device modes will clear all of these flags as long as the original fault has been cleared. 

    Keep in mind that the nFAULT pin reports statuses other than local and bus faults. The power-up and wake-up flags are also indicated by this pin state. So nFAULT is expected to be asserted after initial powerup (PWRON) and after receiving a wake-up signal while in sleep mode and transitioning into standby mode (WAKERQ).
