TPS65994AD: TPS65994AD with TUSB1146 and unused pins

Part Number: TPS65994AD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981, TUSB1146
  • Hi Brian,

What application would you be using this device for? The TPS65994AD is only for notebook/PC applications. Therefore, I would recommend looking into the TPS65981.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,
It is a custom purpose built small PC, run by a com express mini CPU.  Looking between those two parts I have determined the TPS65994AD would work better as it is smaller and requires less supporting circuitry.  All i need to do is be a source for power and support alternative mode for Displayport.  I need it as small as possible.

I have requested the TPS65994AD tools and evm.  But I don't think that will answer my questions on the unused pins, I think all of these will be unused as I'm not using the HV sink capability, it will be source only and only port A.  PA_GATE_VBUS, PA_GATE_VSYS, VSYS, PB_GATE_VSYS, PB_GATE_VBUS, PB_VBUS, PB_CC1, PB_CC2.  The other lines I won't need like the GPIO are spell out how to connect them.

    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Hi Hari, I also wanted to ask does the tools and EVM have the i2c map of the TPS65994AD slaves?  Lastly, If you connect the TUSB1146 via the I2Cm port of the TPS65994AD, which doesn't support multi-master, is there a method to change the TUSB1146 settings.

    Thank You,
    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Those pins can be grounded for the port not being used and you can leave the CC and unused GPIO pins floating. I think this device could work for this application.

For the I2C question, yes the EVM has the pins pulled out on a header which you can use for testing. The TUSB1146 can be controlled via the GPIO events, or manual I2C commands from the GUI Tool.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,

Just wanted to double check, the GATE signals are listed as outputs, should those be grounded? or should it be:

    VSYS, PB_VBUS tied to GND.

    PA_GATE_VBUS, PA_GATE_VSYS, PB_GATE_VSYS, PB_GATE_VBUS, PB_CC1, PB_CC2 floating?

Once I am given the EVM I think this answer and that I'll be good to go.

    Thank You,
    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Yes either way should be fine since you are only using 1 port, you will be manually disabling the second port in the configurations. You may leave the other signals floating and VSYS and VBUS to GND.

    Thank you,

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,
    Ahh, ok thanks.

How do I get the EVM and tools.  Does the request link work on the TPS65994AD.  I haven't seen a response after about two days.

    Thanks,
    Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Yes it should be working, I will connect with our marketing team to see if they could take a look at your request.

    Thank you,

    Hari
