DS90UB953-Q1: use 12V/3A PoC schematics and layout recommendation

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB954-Q1,

Hi Sirs,

My customer id developping a board for DS90UB953-Q1 and DS90UB954-Q1.
They designed the 12V/3A on PoC, the 1A of current used for DS90UB953-Q1 and camera system, the 2A of current be used for the LED circuit.
For the 3A of current, is the trace width need to keep 8-10 mils and provide 50-Ω?
Could you please help to check and advise the schematics and the layout of the PoC circuit?
Thanks for your support.

  • Hello,

Unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly how to get a 50Ohm trace.  It will depend on a number things like such as trace width, copper weight, stack up, stub length, etc.  I think it is important to reduce the amount of stubs on the high-speed trace and keep trace width consistent.  Also 3A is quite a bit of current, perhaps it may be necessary to increase the PoC voltage to reduce current draw.

Also this PoC network does not look like one we recommend, so I cannot verify whether it will work in your application. I can only ask that you ensure the high-speed channel meets our channel spec.

I would suggest to follow the layout guidelines listed in the datasheet for the best performance.

    Regards,

    Nick

  • Hi Sir,

What is the maximum current value on the PoC circuit?

  • Hello,

I don't think the PoC network shown is one that we lay out in the datasheet, so I cannot say how much current it can handle.  I can tell you that the PoC network shown in the 953 datasheet is only rated up to 150mA.  With that said I do have a number of other networks that can handle more current but nothing that works up to 3A.

    Regards,

    Nick
