PCA9535: Is PCA9535RGER fully compatible with TCA9555RGER

Part Number: PCA9535
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9555, PCA9555,

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to know if the PCA9535RGER is fully compatible with TCA9555RGER. The operating voltage of the customer's application is 5V. I understand that PCA9535RGER and PCA9555RGER are compatible with TCA9535RGER and TCA9555RGER respectively. However, can he use PCA9535RGER as replacement to TCA9555RGER?

The TCA9555RGER, PCA9555RGER and TCA9535RGER are currently out of stocks.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello,

By compatible I assume you mean are they drop-in compatible. Let me know if that is incorrect.

These devices are almost drop in compatible. From the datasheet: "The PCA9535 is identical to the PCA9555, except for the removal of the internal I/O pullup resistor, which greatly reduces power consumption when the I/Os are held low." So you can replace the devices if you are not relying on the pull up resistors of the I/O ports. The TCA9555 device is meant to be drop in compatible with the PCA9555 so that would mean that the PCA9535 can be used to replace the TCA9555.

Keep in mind that the PCA9535 does have an interrupt errata that is not found on the TCA9555. So when the TCA9555 is available again we recommend upgrading to that.

    Best,

    Chris
