DS90UB960-Q1: Information about CSI-2 channel and its purpose

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1

Hi Team,

May I ask for your help? My customer is working on DS90UB960. Taking ds90ub960-evb schematics as reference, he can see on schematics in evm board, there are two connectors for CSI-1 AND CSI-2. By default of their application they are using CSI-1 channel only. We want to know that what is the exact function of CSI-2 connector?

I hope you can help us.

Thank you so much.

Kind regards,

Gerald

  • Hi Gerald,

On the 960 EVM, there are two MIPI CSI-2 Ports (Port 0 and Port 1). Component J1 corresponds to CSI Tx Port 0 and component J3 corresponds to CSI Tx Port 1. Each CSI output port can act independently, since there are 4 data lanes and a clock lane routed to each Tx port. And you can connect each Tx port to a different serializer or separate SoC input ports.

Through I2C register settings, you can configure the DS90UB960 to aggregate video data from 4 Rx input ports to 1 CSI Tx output port. Or, for example, aggregate video data from 2 Rx input ports to Tx Port 0 and video data from the other 2 Rx input ports to Tx Port 1. You could also aggregate all of the incoming video data to Tx Port 0 and then configure the device to output a replicated version of the data to Tx Port 1.

See registers 0x20 and 0x21 in the 960 datasheet for more information.

    Best,

    Justin Phan
