Ben,
How do you want to stress the device? Can regular RS-485 EVM be used?
Hi Hao, thank you for the EVM reference. What I came up with (for static BI) is to tie /RE to GND, DE and D tied to 3.6V, A and B tied together thru a 54ohm resistor. Wasn't sure if I should put a load of 1K to GND for R. Both the receiver and driver enabled. However, another engineer suggested DE, D and /RE to 3.6V, R tied to a load of 54ohm to GND, and A and B both tied to 3.6V. Now with /RE high, i assume the receiver is disabled. What does tying A and B to 3.6V do?
Ben,
For R, you can leave it open or with 1kOhm and 15pF.
In applications, R pin communicates with microcontroller by GPIO. 54Ohm load might be too heavy for it. Looking it another way, 5V/54Ohm is about 100mA, exceeding 8mA driving limit of the pin. I'm not sure what tying A/B to 3.6V does, maybe checking short current (Ios) with maximum operation voltage?
