Hello together,

Before using the TCA9548A Low-voltage 8-Channel I2C Switch with Reset, we would like to ask if the IC is right for our requirement.

We are planning a circuit in which one I²C path can be cut off from the rest of the bus if necessary. However, if the connection is desired, it should be possible for the I²C master on the right side of the following sketch to reach the slave on the left side until the left master asks the TCA9548A to disable the connection to the right side.

Would the TCA9548A be able to fulfill this task?

Yes, this switch can connect or cut off the eight downstream channels exactly like that.

Please note that the TCA9548A-Q1 is large, expensive, and currently out of stock. If you need to cut off only a single channel, you can just use a much simpler analog switch like the SN74LVC2G66-Q1 (which is controlled not through I²C but with a separate GPIO).
