DP83869HM: DP83869 SIP and SIN voltage levels

Hi Team,

Customer want to drive SIP & SIN pins and the input for these pins are from THS4551. Please refer below image, the Differential output from THS4551, obtained from PSpice Simulation. The same output is given as input to DP83869HM, at SIP & SIN pins.

So, is this a valid input to DP83869 chip ?

As per the 8.5 : Electrical Characteristics of datasheet, which says 350mV is the min Voltage.

Output Voltage from THS4551 is 400mVpp, the worst case is 150mVpp.

Can DP83869 work on this voltage levels.

Hi Shinu,

The design team got back to me and, as per the datasheet, we do not recommend operating the DP83869 at a voltage lower than 350mV.

Anything outside of DS would result in non-guaranteed performance for the PHY.

Hi Joe,

Please can you suggest any media converter chip which can satisfy the below requirement:

chip should perform 100BASE-TX to SGMII Bidirectional conversion.
chip should accept input voltage (to SGMII side) as low as 150mV.
chip should accept 50-60E input termination on positive terminal of SGMII input and the same on negative input.

Hi Sandeep,

After further investigation, I have realized that there is some padding of values in the datasheet.

We have internally tested the PHY with a minimum of 150 mV differential and it worked. I apologize for the confusion but the THS4551 should work with your application.
