DS90UB954-Q1: Limitations Interfacing with two camera Inputs

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Our customer is planning to use two camera inputs to DS90UB954 with different resolution and fps.In this case Two 953's are interfacing with different resolutions and frame rate., For example one input with 1080P @ 30FPS and other input with 480P @ 60fps.

Found from other forum thread that the DS90UB954-Q1 can be paired with different cameras having different resolution and FPS. However could you help with the inquiries below?

1) In this case, planning to use two different sensors , i believe no impact on the use case
2) What is a best topology ( 4 lane or 2+2 lane) for this use case, please suggest

Hi Art,

The 954 can handle this use case, you should not have any issues. As for the topology you can use either, really it depends what would be better at a system level. Just know that you will not be able to do any synchronous forwarding and you should pay attention to the virtual channels as well.

Thanks Nick, customer just want to understand sync forwarding since frame rates are different, the video inputs at the 954 will be different. Is the understanding correct or any other reason sync forwarding is not possible?

Hi Art,

You are correct, I am just saying you will need to use round robin forwarding which is the default anyway.

Thanks again for your quick response Nick. One last question from the customer, do they need consider any thing SOC point of view for this use case, other than per lane data rate?

Hi Art,

From the SoC point of view the CSI port on the deserializer is a recreation of what is being received on the serializer. So basically just data rate per lane, number of lanes, data format and virtual channels.
