DS90UB960-Q1: STP / Coax cable mode bit disappeared

Part Number: DS90UB960-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ALP

Hi all,

in older data sheet versions (and in ALP) there is a distinction between STP and Coax cable mode in PORT_CONFIG 0x6D[2]. In recent document this bit is signed to be reserved (but nevertheless a strap pin).

How this bit will be strapped (in mode pin table the distinction between coax and STP disappeard (at DS90UB954 as well)?

What happens when set to coax cable mode? Will amplidude or sensitivity be doubled?

Regards

Torsten

  • Hello Torsten,

In the original device definition there were specific modes for STP vs. coax configuration, but in the final device there is no specific mode needed to use the part in either coax or STP configuration. The driver/receiver architecture within the part is always differential no matter what, and then the connection type is just selected based on how you terminate the RX pins into the differential or single ended connector. The bits that select STP vs. coax mode in the part are unused in the final design so they don't change anything about the device behavior when they are toggled which is why they were removed from the MODE_SEL tables and the reg map for the final production datasheet material.

    Best Regards,

    Casey
