TCA9543A: Recommend solution for 2 ch/I2C switch with enable/disable function

Part Number: TCA9543A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCA9518, TMUX136, TMUX154E, TMUX1136

Hi Team,

My customer is seeking 2 ch/ I2C switch (passive)/ support enable/disable function. I only found our TCA9543A but it look like without EN function. Do you have better solution can suggest to us? Thank you.

Best regards,

Hardy

  • Hi Hardy,

Most of our I2C portfolio uses a state machine to control the I2C switches. The only other device that has an enable is the PCA9518 but it is not a passive I2C switch since it is a buffer that redrives the signals. If you need to have an enable function on a passive switch, the best solution would be to utilize some kind of 2 channel MUX. I can redirect your question to our team who specialize in the MUX portfolio to provide a suggestion outside of the PCA9518.

You may want to include Vcc levels and Max frequency needed to be supported.

  • Hey Hardy,

Here's a list of the 2 channel, 2:1 (SPDT) switches that have the configuration you're looking for : 2 channel 2:1

TMUX1136 is a good fit here. The bandwidth (250MHz) should adequately cover I2C frequencies and the voltage range should be covered as well (up to 5.5V). Low leakage current and low on resistance. The on capacitance is 20pF which shouldn't be a problem, given that i2C buses I believe can allow up to 400pF but if that is too high for your system, we definitely have options with lower on capacitance (See TMUX136 or TMUX154E)
Let me know if this works for your applications

    Thanks,
    Rami
