Hello，

Our customer  met one question about the STP to coax conversion,  he has one sensor module which has integrated serializer, and the connector of the module is STP, but the Display module which also integrated deserializer is coax connector,  so how to change the STP to coax connection?  Is  this solution is feasible? He wanted  to select another derializer and serializer, the solution is as this:

Sensor (internal serializer)+Deserializer+ Serializer------coax----Display  module?

    Hello Kailyn,

    The solution of adding a deserializer and serialzier in series as a repeater circuit shown above will certainly work as a solution to your problem.  However it may be possible to just have a termination board that will terminate the DOUT- with a 50Ohm resistor and pass the DOUT+ to a coax connector.  This however will be rather tricky and probably less reliable and will require that the overall channel still meet our channel spec which will be difficult with the added connections.  

    If adding additional SER/DES circuit is ok I would recommend to follow your suggestion above.

    Thank you for your reply, except adding additional serdes to resolve the problem,  do you have any other opinion which could convert STP to coax transmission?

    Hi Kailyn,

    If you don't want to add another set of SERDES then I think you could make some kind of conversion board that would go from STP to coax however I don't want to recommend this since I feel that it will add a number of problems trying to meet the channel spec.  

    For ADAS application typically we see coax being used over STP.  Is it possible to find a module with a coax connector instead of STP?  I know we have a vendor called leopard imaging that provides many sensors to our customers.
