PCA9306: PCA9306 Level Translator Output is always Enabled

Dear Team,

I am using PCA9306 board for level Translation .The schematic is given below.The board is purchased from third party not made by me.(https://www.sparkfun.com/products/15439)

I need to control the Enable pin using Arduino.

As the vendor suggested I cut the trace and filled the lower Jumper.

Vref_Low and Vref High are provided from Arduino.(3.3V and 5V).EN is also provided by Arduino and it is 5V

What I observed is

1)whether EN is high or LOW output is always coming.

2)Output voltage is not coming to 3.3V it is coming as 2.2V

May I know your thoughts.Is it the board issue or something wrong went from my side?

Hi Hari,

This board appears to have the EN line disconnected by default, instead having the EN line tied directly to Vref2. If the trace in JP1 is cut and the EN connection made at this pad as the vendor suggests, then both the EN and Vref2 pins will be supplied by the EN net. The pull-up resistors are still referenced to the Vref2 net. Have you made this connection to the EN net? Does Vref2 still have a supply for the pullup? Perhaps you could share a picture of your board and setup.

The only way to disable this device is to pull EN directly low (with an open-drain driver). Then EN connection on that board cannot work.

You would have to modify the board to connect to the other end of R3.
