TLIN1021-Q1: RXD pull resistor selection

Part Number: TLIN1021-Q1

Hello,

From this datasheet table, the RXD IoL min = 1.5mA.

Does it mean the pull up resistor of RXD should be higher than 3.3V (pull up ) / 1.5mA = 2.2k ohm.

If I use any resistor lower than 2.2kohm, it will damage this device?

  • How to link the Io value in below table and above table?

  • Hi Xiaoqiang,

The value for IOL shown in the datasheet is the minimum current that the mosfet sinks when it pulls RXD low. This is current going into the RXD pin:

This image isn't of the TLIN1021 but the open drain drivers works the same way. What is important here is that the IOL is mainly dependent on the R_DSON resistor in the mosfet. For instance, with this device, at a minimum I_OL of 1.5 mA and an RXD voltage of 0.4V:

You get an R_DSON resistance of 266 ohms. If you're IOL is higher that means that your R_DSON resistance is smaller. If you would like to learn more about open drain drivers I would recommend reading this app note. It goes over how to calculate the minimum and maximum pull up resistances.

For all of our LIN transceivers with an open drain RXD you can use a pull up between 1k and 10k.

    Best,

    Chris
