TUSB4041I: Could you review the schematic for TUSB4041I?

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Hi TI experts,

My customer designed the schematic for TUSB4041I.

Description of downstream for this application.

1) This application does not have an external USB connector available for users.

2) TUSB4041I is connecting to other ICs (Display link, Micom, Touch).

Below is the question.

1. In this case, is the Overcurrent Detection IC(AP2166) required?

2. If we do not need a current limit IC, please guide me on how to configure the power supply to other ICs(Display link, Micom, Touch).

3. Please review the schematic.

Thanks!

Downey.

  • Hi Downey,

I will review and provide feedback by Monday.

    Regards,

    JMMN

  • Schematic feedback:

    1. A 1uF capacitor on GRSTz is fine for most applications, but if the power supply ramp time is long, they may need to increase it to 2 uF to met the power on reset timing conditions.
    2. Please make sure the customer layout incorporates the thermal pad as shown in the datasheet.
    3. I2C or SMBUS is not required for default hub mode, it is only needed if the customer wants to change the configuration of the hub.
    4. Please note that the voltage rails are 3.3V and 1.1V, if the customer uses 1.2V they will need to be careful it doesn't exceed the maximum voltage range.
    5. Functionally, the design looks ok but if the hub must past USB-IF compliance testing (logo testing) the following items would be needed:
    • OVERCURRENT reporting would have to be enabled in the application.
    • Any unused or permanently connected ports would have to be marked via i2C or SMBUS.

    JMMN

  • Hi JMMN,

    Thank you for your feedback!

Any unused or permanently connected ports would have to be marked via i2C or SMBUS.

Do you mean setting Port Used configuration register?

    Thanks!

  • Yes, you can set the used ports in the Port Used register and the non-removable ports in the Device Removable register.

This does not impact the hub's operation, but the Port User register can change how many ports the hub reports and their numbering.

    Regards,

    JMMN
