DS90UB941AS-Q1: SPI in splitter mode

Part Number: DS90UB941AS-Q1

Dear expert,

My system is one 941 + two 948 in splitter mode.  Can I use SPI in this scenario?

in TI_DS90Ux94x_SPI_Control_Channel.pdf, "The SPI Control Channel utilizes the secondary link in a dual-link FPD3 implementation."

I just need SPI very occasionally for one 948 channel for firmware upgrading which is offline(NO video traffic when using SPI).

Even one 948 has only one FPD3 link connected, can I force it works in dual link mode(with register 0x20 bit 2,3 set to 1) to let SPI work ?

BTW, in 981 datasheet, "In backward compatible mode, the SPI Control Channel utilizes the secondary link in a 2-lane FPD-Link III
implementation." Does it mean for FPD4, SPI doesn't need dual channel mode?

Great thanks
