TCAN4551-Q1: Question about TCAN4551-Q1

Part Number: TCAN4551-Q1

Hi, support team

My customer has the questions as follow:

I use TCAN4551-Q1 in my design.
There are 9 lines connectted to MCU in Figure 106. Typical CAN Applications of datasheet.
But there are few empty terminals for GPIO of my MCU
GPO1, GPO2, nINT, nWKRQ. Is it OK not to connect?

Thanks so much.

Best regards,
Yuki

  • Hi Yuki,

This thread has a similar question with some more info.

I will summarize here: the SPI pins (SCLK, SDI, SDO, and nCS) are required for basic device functionality. The nINT output allows for interrupt based indications of CAN traffic and other events as opposed to polling the interrupt status through SPI. The nWKRQ, GPO1, and GPO2 are similar outputs that can convey emmediate information to the MCU, though this info will also be available through SPI. The use of the RST line will depend on your own system needs.

In short, yes. Excluding the listed pins will still allow for basic functionality of the device.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
