Can ULN2003 be used for wired AND connection?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ULN2003A, TPL7407LA

Customer would like to check whether ULN2003 can be used for wired AND connection as below. Could you please help check it? Thank you.

  • Yes, the ULN2003A has open-collector outputs that can be paralleled this way.

(BJTs have a negative temperature coefficient, so such a circuit could not be used if you needed multiple outputs for current sharing. In that case, you would have to add series resistors, or use a MOSFET-based device like the TPL7407LA.)

  • Hi Aki,

Can you confirm you intend to use two different input voltages to drive a single gate? I am confirming with systems whether that gets us into a load sharing issue.

    I will send you a follow-up response by tomorrow, 9/8 5:00pm CST.

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth

  • Hi Aki,

The INx pins on ULN2003 are only enable pins so using two different voltages to trigger them will be fine. However, since the ULN2003 connects the output load to GND, I'm not sure how you will be able to connect the loads to GND in an AND system.
