Hello,

We have used TPS65988 PD controller in one of our projects, which has two Type- C ports. One port is a dedicated power port which has no data role and is always an UFP. Other port is DATA+POWER port which is a DRP. For the second port, when it acts as an DFP it can only source 5V/3A, for which we have made use of an external power path controlled by GPIO17 of PD Controller. Attached a Block diagram and Schematics for the review. Please review and your comments will be of great help.

Hi Anushree,

Yes the schematic looks good for the most part. I noticed that the I2C2 port doesn't have any pullup resistors to LDO_3V3. Other than that, everything else looks fine. Do you have protection if both ports are connected at the same time since I see that both PPHV from the 2 ports are connected together?

I would also recommend taking a look at the TPS25750 instead as this is our newest device.

Can't we program the PD controller TPS65988 to close either one of the internal switches when both ports are connected as UFPs?

We thought of using TPS25750, but we have a strict space constraint and decided to go for TPS65988.

Hi Anushree,

Yes, the PD controller has a Multiport Sink Policy feature which can be used when both ports are set for sinking and it will only have 1 port sinking power at a time.

Hi Anushree,

Yes, you will need to enable the bit for this field in register 0x27, Global System Configuration. Please see the Technical Reference Manual of the device for the specific bit info.
