DP83TC812S-Q1: GND_ESC function

Dear team,

Could you please tell me what our recommendation is for pin17&pin18? The datasheet said that connecting these two pins will optimize PCB layout. I want to know why this operation will optimize PCB layout? We have two options for this connection, connecting to ground or left unconnected. In which scenario, we recommend connecting to ground? In which scenario, we recommend being left unconnected?

Hi Sherry,

The GND_ESC pins are simply a flexibility option to offer a clear path the GND on the top layer directly to the DAP of the PHY. This allows a path for a GND plane to reach the DAP from outside of the PHY. This is an optional connection and can be left NC.
