TUSB8044A: Overcurrent Threshold for TUSB8044A

Part Number: TUSB8044A

I want to interface downstream devices consuming 1.5A current. Can this be possible using this IC if I select a suitable adapter and buck converter to supply power to downstream VBUS, or will it flag as over current?

I want to know the over current threshold so that I can decide which devices will work for downstream ports.

Thanks,

Vijay

  • Hi Vijay,

The TUSB8044A does not actually monitor current consumption.  The hub will only report an overcurrent event if one of its overcurrent inputs is asserted (pulled low).  As long as you select power devices that can handle 1.5A per port without drooping, there should not be any issue.  Please note that the latest USB specification ECNs have increased maximum VBUS from 5.25V to 5.5V so you can consider setting VBUS above nominal 5V to prevent it drooping below 4.75V when a large load is present.
