DS160PR410: Question Regarding Connection to operate the chip

Part Number: DS160PR410

Dear TI,

Good day, I would like to ask about the DS160PR410RNQT chip. I have read through the datasheet and have connected according as shown below:

I tried to connect the signal generator and measure using oscilloscope, I have no luck on getting any signal across. I am running on pin mode since i don't need to use SDA and SCL. The only difference i see is that my VREG is not connected to capacitor before connecting to ground, will that be a problem? Please advise.

Thank you very much! Slight smile

Best Regards

  • Greetings,

We should have supply coupling Caps on VREG since this is the internal regulator output and we need some supply coupling Cap. However, i don't think this could be the root cause for not seeing the signal coming through the device. Please make sure:

1). You are AC coupling between signal source and DS160PR410.

2). Typically we use differential input - RX0+/RX0-. In your diagram you show RX0+ only.

3). I am not sure what data rate you are using but please make sure you use at least 1Gbps to check signal flow through the device.

  • Dear Nasser,

After a lot of testing, I have concluded something. So now, I am testing it this way:

I am currently testing in 700MHz, since this is the only generator I have so far. I have tested and I still get no signal at all on my oscilloscope. However, I found out that, when I put the Signal Generator in green region and Oscilloscope in red region, I can get a signal. After that, I swap back to default (red being signal generator again) and the linear re-driver is working fine now. I tried on multiple linear re-driver and they all have the same results. Do I have to keep generating signal from the opposite direction before I can use it normally?

What is happening here, please advice this phenomenon.

Thank you very much! Slight smile

  • Greetings,

I think this is related to the rx detect function. You are floating RX_DET pin - PCIe rx detection enabled and you scope is high impedance. Please pull RX_DET pin 26 through 59K mode to GND(L3) and then Green could be scope and red could be generator. Or you can enable 50-ohm termination on your scope.

  • Dear Nasser,

Thank you for this suggestion, I will immediately arrange to modify my PCB and reply when I got the results. At the meantime, I would like to confirm if the linear re-driver is single direction or bi directional? Let's say after I installed the 59K at pin 26. Thanks!

  • Greetings,

DS160PR410 is an active device and linear redriver is a single direction - from input to output.

  • Hi Nasser,

I have received my modified board and it works fine now! Thank you very much for the help! Slight smile
