TPS65987EVM: Can't change any setting on TPS65987EVM

Part Number: TPS65987EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981EVM

I am trying to configure a TPS65987EVM for D_DFP_D using the Application Customization Tool.  I have entered Debug mode and am looking at the Configuration Registers.  Every time I change the Port Capability from "DP_UFP_D and DFP_F" to "DP_DFP_D only", it changes back after about one second.  I've tried a few other registers and they all behave this way.  It appears that the changes I'm making in the app are not being written to the chip.  What am I missing?

  • Tony,

The EVM is really intended for you to write a configuration to it, and not update registers in Debug mode.  If the register reverts, then it is not intended to be functional in debug mode.

The EVM user's guide should tell you how to load a configuration onto the EVM from the GUI.

I suggest that you configure the DP port to match the testing that you want to do, then write the configuration to the EVM and power cycle the EVM.  This will allow you to enter alternate mode correctly from the start.

    Regards,

    Chuck

  • Thanks Chuck. I switched from the TPS65981EVM which does allow you to make changes in Debug mode to the TPS65987EVM.  I just expected the same behavior.  The TPS65987EVM user's guide doesn't say anything about changing settings.  It just describes the hardware.  I'll try your suggestion.

  • Tony,

The two implementations are different behind the scenes in the GUI, so differences do pop up all the time.

Please le me know you need any further help.

  • We switched to a Cypress CY4531 CCG3 EVK.  Its default configuration is exactly what we need.
