PCA9306-Q1: PCA9306 In Switch Mode with Vref1 and Vref2 grounded

Part Number: PCA9306-Q1

Hello,

The PCA9306-Q1 is used in our application as a I2C switch. Both sides of the PCA9306-Q1 are supplied with 3.3V (from the same supply) and we don't need the voltage translation functionality. The EN pin is controlled by a 3.3V GPIO.

Based on this thread (https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface-group/interface/f/interface-forum/1009023/pca9306-pca9306-in-switch-mode-vref1-and-vref-2-absent?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=PCA9306#), we could leave the VREF1 and VREF2 pins open.

My question is: to avoid floating pins, can the VREF1 and VREF2 pins be connected to ground?

From why I understand from the PCA9306-Q1 datasheet, there are 3 mosfets inside. One between VREF1/VREF2, one between SCL1/SCL2, one between SDA1/SDA2. The mosfet between VREF1/VREF2 is used to generate a suitable gate voltage for voltage translation. Since we don't use this feature, we can ground that mosfet (VREF1 and VREF2 connected to GND) and simply control EN pin with a 3.3V GPIO.
Is my understanding correct?

Thank you,
Thomas
