TPS25810: charging current question

Part Number: TPS25810

Hi,

Please check customer question below. Thanks!

Abra used PI3EQX10612(Mux redriver) + TPS25810(Type C power controller) solution for USB3.2 Gen2 Type C port.

Based on TPS25810 spec., it supported 3A current mode which selected by pin7 and pin8.

Can you tell us what devices or methods(except dummy load) that you can make sure the charging current can achieve 3A?

We used iPad(Apple lightning to type-C cable) and connected to this port, but its charging current was only ~0.5A.

*Abra Type C port CHG/CHG_HI setting : 11

  • Hello,

Yes, the only way to test the full current capabilities is through the use of a dummy load. You can connect devices such as an iPad but just because the charger advertises that it can support 3A of charging does not mean that the connected device will pull 3A. You must use a resistive load where you can control the current being pulled
