TFP401A: works on display port alt mode ?

Part Number: TFP401A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1064, TUSB564, TFP401

Hello Guys,

Good day.

Can display port alt mode works with the TFP401A?

Its for a replacement display for a customer who has an existing display port alt mode connection driving a 7" flat panel. This would be to replace the existing flat panel. the flat panel is a TFT parallel connection.

Thanks and regards,

The TFP401A is a TMDS to PanelBus receiver, it will not able to support the DP Alt Mode directly. To support DP Alt Mode, you would need a Type-C MUX to support Type-C orientation (TUSB564 or TUSB1064), a DP to HDMI active protocol converter.

When you say TFT parallel connection, what kind of interface is it, MCU or RGB?

Please also note that the TFP401A can only support Pixel Rates up to 165 MHz (Including 1080p and WUXGA at 60 Hz).

    Thanks

    David

  • Hello David,

The display is an 18bit RGB with 29MHz pixel clock at 800x480 resolution. The customer is more worried if the TFP401 can have display port alt mode as an input.

    Any additional inputs?

    Thanks and regards,

The TFP401 has a HDMI or TMDS input, it can't directly support DP Alt Mode. To support DP Alt Mode, you would need a Type-C MUX to support Type-C orientation (TUSB564 or TUSB1064), a DP to HDMI active protocol converter.

    Thanks
