No, the customer asked if they could be connected directly. Under normal conditions, two PHYs shall be connected through transformer + RJ45 + network cable. The question is, is there a problem with these two PHY direct connections? If there is no problem, is there anything to pay attention to during PCB wiring?

What do you mean by directly - without the transformer ? If yes, you should be able to use the DP83848 using capacitive isolation. If No, can you please ask for clarifications.
