SN65DPHY440SS: Re-timer for eDP interface

Hi:

Please provide correct re-timer for eDP interface application. The following is our application.

          MIPI DSI                                                         Cable (50ohm)=50cm                                                            MIPI DSI      

CPU -------------->MIPI to eDP IC ----> Re-timer IC----------------------------------> Re-timer IC ----> eDP to MIPI IC --------------> Monitor

    For MIPI to eDP, please take a look at the DSI86. 

    We do not have eDP retimer, we do have eDP redriver, DP141 or DP142.

    We do not eDP to DSI solution.

  • Q1:If SN65DP141 uses 50ohm network cable to transmit data, it is most often a few meters?

    Q2:For SN65DP141, Whether input and output accept swing for 400mV, 600mV, and 800mV?

    Is the network cable going to be fixed? The DP141 is a linear redriver, so it is best to put the cable before the DP141 and let the DP141 RX EQ to compensate for the loss of the network cable if the cable is fixed. 

    The DP141 linearity range is 1.2V, so it will accept 400, 600, and 800mV input.

    *** Yes, depends on the data cable loss and the data rate, you may not need the 1st DP141.

    Q2.How many meters can SN65DP141 support  for caxial cable length?

    *** It depends on the data rate and the loss of the coaxial cable, the max compensation the DP141 can support is 15dB.  

    Q3.Are SN65DSI86-Q1 and SN65DP141SN65D compatible?

    *** Yes

  • Q1. Based on the design guideline of SLLA343.pdf for SN65DSI86-Q1 which has desripiton the maximum trace length over FR4 between SN65DSIX6 and the GPU is 25 – 30 cm. It seems need 1st SN65DP141. Is it right?

    *** If the distance between the DSI86 and the DP141 is longer than the 25-30cm, then you would need to add the 1st DP141.

    *** It depends if the loss of the coaxial cable is within the compensation range of the DP141. If it is within the DP141 RX EQ supported range, then the DP141 can support it.

    Q3. How amplitude is MIPI DSI swing after adding SN65DPHY440SS? How many cm can be transmitted by coaxial cable (50ohm)? The coaxial cable transmitted 6Gbps data rate. 

    *** The max data rate the DPHY440 can support is only 1.5Gbps, it can't support 6Gbps.

    Q4.Should the SN65DPHY440SS be added before or after the coaxial cable? Or should the SN65DPHY440SS be added before and after the coaxial cable?

    *** I would add the DPHY440 after the cable so the DPHY440 RX EQ can compensate for the cable loss.

      (2560X2560X60fpsX24bpp)/4=2.359Gbps per lane

    Unfortunately we do not have a MIPI retimer that can support this data rate.

  • Q1:SN65DP141 only supports 12Gbps four lanes, right?

    Q2:Does TI have an eDP re-driver greater than 12Gbps?

    The DP141 supports 12G per lane, why do you need a eDP redriver that supports more than 12G?

      I thought SN65DP141 has four channels with a total of 12Gbps, so I asked if there is a re-driver greater than 12Gbps.

    No, it is 12G per lane, so the bandwidth is sufficient as a eDP redriver.
