TPS25750EVM: Fault after programing and loading at 45watt for 12 hours than Defective

Part Number: TPS25750EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25750, USB2ANY

So it seems we broke it, we programed it to fairly low output 45watt 15V and after 12 or so hours (we left it overnight) now its doing odd stuff

Can not program it again, and when PDOs are advertised they are not selectable only 5V is preset, as soon as you trigger other PDO it just does a Hard Reset as per Total Phase PD sniffer output

its also odd that we are not able to talk to it anymore via the utility it just sits there

Not sure what else to try

  • Radoslaw,

Did you update the configuration on the GUI?

Can you send me the JSON file that is written by the GUI when you click on the export settings?

Can you describe how the EVM is powered (from type C or from the Barrel Jack, or Both)

    Regards,

    Chuck

  • config0000.zip

here is the JSON config file

We are using device as PD SRC Provider and powering it through DC Jack

  • Here is a video showing PDOs and selecting them just reboots TI board

  • Thanks for the Video, it makes it much easier for me to match your board configuration.

I will match this configuration and test on Monday.

  • main issue is that there seems to be no more link between config utility and the TPS Ic, Tiva is working as it should but NOT communicating with TPS25750DRJK

  • Radoslaw,

The TIVA is only used to program the EEPROM on this board.  There is not command link between it and the TPS25750.

The issue that you are seeing looks to be a configuration issue or a board interaction, but I need to reproduce it to see for sure.

  • We also have a USB2Any, could we just remove the boot from flash jumper( power up board)  and Reset Factory Default settings?

    All ideas welcome

  • Try powering the board down, then remove jumper J4 to disconnect the EEPROM SDA line from the TPS25750,

Then try programming the device again and see if you get a successful program.  It may be the case that the I2Cm bus is locked up because of an EEPROM issue.

If this allows you to successfully program the board, then power down the board and re-insert the jumper.

    Let me know 2 things:

    1.  Does the board program correctly with the jumper removed?

    2.  Does the board connect to type C with the jumper removed?

    Regards,

    Chuck

  • Got it reset and programmed again, power cycle procedure:

    Remove J4

Power from type C sink (5V from any phone or tablet)

    Plug USB Micro for Tiva

    Power UP DC Jack 19V

    Place J4 back in circuit

now programing worked just fine and unit is back to 60watt output PDOs

  • Now I'm 100% certain we have a defect EVK, this is such a pain , one out of 100 times it will let you program it...

never had to return a deboard before, but is that even an option?

  • Rozycki,

This does appear to be an defective EVM.

If you have a contact with the TI sales team, I can easily work with them to get you a new EVM, and if you do not, then I can work with the TI STORE to send you a replacement, but this path will be a little more difficult because I have never had to do it before either.
