SN65DPHY440SS: solution select

Part Number: SN65DPHY440SS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN75DPHY440SS

Dear team

As shown in the figure below, the main board (A) and Camera Module board (B), the relative position length of the two sides is about 500mm due to the structure ID setting.
1. Is it suitable for ICs such as  MIPI Retimer (SN65DPHY440SS/ SN75DPHY440SS) to extend the signal length?
2. If it is possible, Retimer is recommended to be placed on the B side?Or other??
3. In general, what is the maximum length of this type of Retimer?

Are there other more suitable feasible solutions for this relative length?

Many thanks

Denny

What is the required data rate? I noticed the camera can support 4k@30Hz, this means 3G per lane. But the DPHY440 can only support up to 1.5G per lane.

The DPHY440 supports up to 5dB at 750MHz and 2.5dB DE on its TX. These features were intended to some extent to compensate the ISI loss in the channel. It’s hard to tell a max transmission distance, with different transmission materials may have different results, also the clock rate, source signal swing, DE level of source signal, EQ capability of end point receiver will take an effect. If customer can measure or simulate the degraded eye diagram, they should be able to get an idea of whether they need ISI compensation from DPHY440.

As a repeater, DPHY400 is also intended to eliminate the timing skew due to channel differences. As long as the input timing within DPHY440’s spec requirement, it is able to re-align clock and data to improve the system’s timing margin.

As to repeater on the Rx or Tx it is really a system choice. But I would place the DPHY440 closer to the 'A' position.

    Thanks
