TCA9800: SCL and SDA Pin consult

Part Number: TCA9800

Hi Team,

Customer accidently reverses the connection for SCL and SDA pins. But I check the D/S those two pins of our TCA9800 seem total same. So customer wants to double check w/ us that is that okay for them to reverse the connections of SCL and SDA pins? Pls help us check it, thanks.

Best,

Stanley

  • On the electrical level, the SCL and SDA signals behave identically. This is OK.

  • Thanks Clemens!

    Hi Stanley,

Some similar buffer devices may not support this switched connection because they only allow communication in one direction for SCL, while SDA would be bi-directional. The way to tell if a device will be bidirectional for both channels is to see if it supports clock stretching (like TCA9800). Such devices allow for a bidirectional SCL signal as well as SDA, resulting in two identical channels for the I2C signals. For these, it is fine to treat either channel as SCL.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

    Eric Schott
