TCAN1044V-Q1: TCAN1044V-Q1 Do i need to use Transistor for STB pin to meet VIO level? or can i connect the STB pin directly to Processor?

Part Number: TCAN1044V-Q1

Hi Team,

I am using TCAN1044VDRQ1 in 2 wheeler cluster application.

Would like to get the schematic reviewed.

VCC is 5V, VIO is 3.3V.

Do i need to use Transistor for STB pin to meet VIO level? or can i connect the STB pin directly to Processor?

  • Hi Lakshmipriya,

While the input threshold for the STB pin will be set by the Vio level, the absolute maximum for this pin is still 6V. This means that a 5V input may still be used for STB when Vio is supplied with a lower voltage. For this schematic, the external level shifter is not necessary.

The rest of the schematic looks good. I don't have any changes to recommend. See my notes below.

    • Decoupling capacitors included and valued appropriately.
    • Optional split capacitor included and valued appropriately.
    • Bus capacitors included and valued appropriately - ensure placement close to connector and along signal path.
    • TVS diode included - ensure placement close to connector and along signal path.
    • Optional termination resistors included correctly and valued appropriately.

Let me know if there are any questions or concerns regarding the design.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
