THVD8000: Send RS485, HDSDI signal over bus using THVD8000

Part Number: THVD8000

Hi Experts,

May I ask for help? Our customer have a concern as shown below:

"I wonder if I can Send RS485, HDSDI signal over bus using THVD8000 ?
the document said it just availaible for RS485 and power only.
i wonder is it possible to send RS485, HDSDI and Power in one Coaxial Cable."

We hope to receive your confirmation/advise. Thank you.

Kind regards,
Gerald

  • Gerald,

The THVD8000 can be used for the power line communication - transmitting both data and power on the same differential wires. The device's output is the modulated RS-485 signaling. But like the RS-485 communication, data itself are digital signal like UART. So far THVD8000 only works with up to 1Mbps baud rate.

  • Hi Hao,

Thank you so much for your previous response. Just want to ask, Do you have any solution suggestions for our customer case?

    Kind regards,
    Gerald

  • Gerald,

Can you elaborate the requirement, like data rate, distance, etc? I assume by one coaxial cable, you meant single-ended communication. Here is a diagram for your reference. By doing this, the inductor number becomes half while the bus amplitude is half.

Please note that the bus is not terminated. If you do need termination, you can terminate the nodes single-ended.

  • Hi Hao,

Please see below as our customer response:
"That is thế diagram i want to follow. But I wonder can I one more signal HDSDI in same coaxial cable. My idea is use low-pass filter for power, band pass for rs485 and high pass for SDI.

    Is that possible?
Another concern is that what happen if we transmit rs485 in coaxial ? And how to design a filter for this application?
Here is some requirement for this application. Thank you so much for your support.

    Kind regards,
    Gerald
  • Gerald,

Thanks for your information. I'm afraid THVD8000 might not work with this application. 1) the HD-SDI data rate might be too high (I guess it's much higher than 1Mbps); 2) theoretically one DC and two different frequency signal could be transmitted on the same bus. However THVD8000 doesn't integrate narrow band filters. I'm afraid the bandwidth of two signal cannot be separated.
