SN65HVD1176: Differences SN65HVD1176D vs SN65ALS1176D

Part Number: SN65HVD1176

Hello,

can SN65ALS1176D be considered a direct replacement for SN65HVD1176D?

Many thanks,

Alessio

  • Maybe. That old ALS device uses more power, has a narrower temperature range, and loads the bus like five HVD receivers.

  • Hi Alessio,

In this case, you are trying to replace a newer part with an older part. I would expect that there would be some electrical downgrades switching to an older part.

Exploring the datasheets of the two devices, the ALS device will experience slower max signal rate, narrower temperature range and poorer current consumption (stated by Clemens).

I did notice that the ALS device receiver fail-safe only detects open-circuit conditions. The HVD fail-safe can detect open, bus shorts, or idle busses.

Ultimately, direct replacement of the device will depend on your specific applications you are trying to fulfill.

    Regards,

    Tyler

  • Many thanks Clemens and Tyler for your clarification.
