TUSB1044: Question about the I2C mode and GPIO mode of TUSB1044

Hi Sir,

Our customer have some question about the I2C mode and GPIO mode of TUSB1044, and they want to know the difference between them.

From the datasheet we learned that both of the GPIO MODE and I2C MODE are need to set GPIO high and low levels, or I2C registers. But we hope to fix confirgurate the DP+USB3.1 by adding GPIO pull-down resistor. Did it feasible?

Hi,

Yes, you can, please refer to Table 2. GPIO Configuration Control in the TUSB1044 datasheet. But typically you should let the PD controller to configure the TUSB1044 depends on the CC negotiation.

Thanks a lot. But our customer was worried about whether there will be some risks in fixing the DP+USB3.1 mode through GPIO, such as increasing power consumption, etc. Can you help confirm this?

Hi,

The power consumption is the same whether the TUSB1044 is configured in I2C or GPIO mode, please see Table 6.5 for the power consumption number.
