TIC10024-Q1: Application issue with TIC10024-Q1

Part Number: TIC10024-Q1

Hi Team,

One of my KMM asked for direct support of their issues instead of Arrow support. They are having an issue related to TIC10024-Q1. Please help me support them. Below are the questions.

They want us to go over SPI waveform of TIC10024-Q1. Their application is ICU. There are 6 points to the questions.

1. Question : Change of SPI signal waveform regarding the increase of capacity of SPI serial resistor. *Which value on the datasheet should the customer focus on?

2. The reason of the increase in serial resistor : As they did evaluation of static electricity, there was an issue with controlling switch.

  • There was an error with the MSDI reset.
  • They increased the SPI serial resistor (100 ohm to 390 ohm), this resolved their issue.

3. ICU circuit

: MCU (Master)

MSDI 1 (Slave) – Serial resistor 100 ohm

MSDI 2 (Slave) – Serial resistor 100 ohm

Relay IC (Slave) – Serial resistor 510 ohm

*Use same SPI line.

4.SPI signal waveform (100 ohm)

5.SPI signal waveform (390 ohm)

6. When the customer doesn’t want to use H/W Reset Pin, how can the customer disable this reset function using S/W register setting except consisting an external pull down circuit?

Thank you.

  • Chris,

Thanks for posting this to E2E, we will have a response by end of business 12/8/2021 CST.

  • Chris,

    Thanks for reaching out!

    For your first question:

    1. Question : Change of SPI signal waveform regarding the increase of capacity of SPI serial resistor. *Which value on the datasheet should the customer focus on?

I am a little unclear which part of the datasheet you are pointing to. While some of the specifications are based on a capacitive load on the SO pin, serial resistance on a SPI signal line is mostly a function of the overall design and environment. Is there a specific value or values that you are referencing?

There was an error with the MSDI reset.

For this, what kind of error is being seen? I took a look at the SPI waveforms that were attached to your question and I wasn’t able to make out the error. What was the attempted transaction here? It looks to me like there is a write command (first bit 1) followed by the address 0110112, which is 1Bh (IN_EN register).

They increased the SPI serial resistor (100 ohm to 390 ohm), this resolved their issue.

I’m unsure why the 390 Ω resistor would solve the issue. I do however see a bit of a timing change, with the 20 ns minimum tHOLD being shortened. If you’re able to give more details on the type of issue being seen, that could help pinpoint the reason why this is changing things.

    6. When the customer doesn’t want to use H/W Reset Pin, how can the customer disable this reset function using S/W register setting except consisting an external pull down circuit?

The RESET pin cannot be ignored via software. By design, it overrides all software and generates a device reset similar to a power-on reset.

    Looking forward to your feedback.

    Best,

    Danny
