TPS65988: About work of port1:sink, port2:source on the TPS65988DH

I have questions about work of port1:sink, port2:source on the TPS65988DH.

I have a problem that port2:source don’t work correct charging 5V 3A.

The power supply is VBUS1 only on my system. VIN_3V3 is open.

Then, port2:source don’t output 5V 3A. The output works 5V 0.9A.

When I tried to supply VIN_3V3, and port2:source output 5V 3A.

The datasheet describes that the TPS65988 is powered from either VIN_3V3, VBUS1, or VBUS2, and so I decided that the power supply of my system is VBUS1 only. VIN_3V3 is open. My system cannot connect 3.3V to VIN_3V3.

Could you tell me solution on this problem ?

Hi,

What are your ADC_IN pin values? VIN_3V3 is still the main preferred source of power, when another source is used, the device will be powered in dead-battery mode and will only program what the default configurations are set to.

My ADCIN1 pin values are R1=200kohm and R2=100kohm (DIV=0.33).

Hi,

In this configuration, the PD controller will wait indefinitely for the configurations. Could you confirm that the PD is receiving the configurations from either an EEPROM or a Host?

The PD is receiving the configurations from an EEPROM(SPI Flash memory) in my system.

Alright then the PD should be configured however, since you do not have VIN_3V3, the PD will still be in dead-battery mode and not be able to both source and sink at the same time at the full 5V, 3A. Could you confirm if the device has PP5V provided and that the power path circuitry is correct?

I think that my circuit is correct. I can charge the device by 5V, 0.9A on Port2(source).

I read the Dead Battery App Note.

So, I tried to clear dead battery flag by using DBfg 4CC command.

I can output 5V, 3A on Port2(Source).

Is this solution OK?

Hi,

Yes once the PD gets power source from being in dead battery mode, you will need to use DBfg, so this is the correct way to do this. You will need to send this 4CC via Host/EC everytime it boots up.
