To use the bus switch to replace the clock buffer

Hi Expert,

The engineer is asking the possibility to use the bus switch (SN74CBTLV3125) to replace the clock buffer (TMUX1511).

The switching frequency is 25Mhz.

May we know whether this idea is correct or not?

Hi Eric,

Neither the TMUX1511 nor the SN74CBTLV3125 can not be used as buffers because they are passive switches - there is no buffering in these parts, and no analog switch/multiplexer in our current portfolio buffers the signal.

That being said - TI does have clock buffers as distinct ICs - you can learn more about them here https://www.ti.com/clocks-timing/buffers/overview.html as these parts will generally be much better suited for clock buffering applications.

The control inputs of the TMUX1511 are active high, those of the SN74CBTLV3125, active low.

Use the SN74CBTLV3126.

All of these devices are low impedance switches, they won't act as a proper buffer - as these switches are just analog through pathways.
