DS90UB953-Q1: Electronical distinction between 953 and 935

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB935-Q1,

Hi all,

in case of alternatively assembling of SER in an application, i.e. either a DS90UB953-Q1 or a DS90UB935-Q1 it would be necessary to identify the SER electronically (I2C) because of different IC performance.

How can this be done, in register 0xF1 up to 0xF5 there is in both devices the identical ID code "UB953" encoded?

Is there the same silicon in both IC types? Except performance are there any other differences?

Regards,

Torsten

  • Hello Torsten,

There is no way to identify 935/953 through SW alone. It needs to be done by the top side marking since they have identical registers. They are the same base silicon, just one is tested/qualified to support higher CSI-2 throughput.

One suggestion we typically give is that from the system design standpoint if you have a stuffing option to use one or the other device based on platform skew, you can also leave a stuffing option to give the part an alternative I2C address with the IDX strap which correlates to one or the other IC is populated. That way when the deserializer links to the SER it will report what I2C address the SER has and that can be used to identify if it is a 935 or 953 in your design

  • Hello Casey,

thanks for the idea. We will do so if necessary.
