TCAN1044A-Q1: TCAN1044A-Q1 power solution

Dear team,

My customer use 12# TCAN1044A-Q1 in their project, and now we are optimizing their power architecture. There is one 5V power rails to power the 12# TCAN1044A-Q1. We plan to use one 450mA LDO to power them, is it enough? If not, could you please tell me what the maximum current is needed under worst case?

    The devices can consume upwards of 80 mA per device (max) when they are dominant in normal mode. In theory, the worst case during normal operation might be considered all 12 of the nodes transmitting a dominant signal simultaneously (for example, in an error frame). This would be a total worst-case consumption of 960 mA. Typically though, the devices only consume less than 50 mA, so you'd usually only see consumption around 600 mA for 12 nodes.

    There is a more significant condition that can occur during a fault case, however. When there is a bus fault, supply current can be increased past what is described above. With a ±25 V fault on CANH/CANL, you could see upwards of 130 mA per node consumed, leading to a total 12-node consumption of up to ~1.5 A, though this is only in a fault case.

    I hope this helps with your design considerations. I would potentially consider two LDOs for this application, split among the nodes.
