DS90UB941AS-Q1: Asymmetric Splitting With Cropping

Part Number: DS90UB941AS-Q1

Hi team,

The above figure is a schematic diagram of 720p + 480p splitting, from the datasheet of DS90UB941AS-Q1. Can 941 support a 1920 * 720 + 480 * 240 splitting? The customer wants to replace 480p with 240p in practical application. Please confirm whether it is feasible?

Best Regards,

Amy Luo

  • Hello Amy,

It is possible from the device side but likely not practical unless the smaller panel can tolerate a very large amount of vertical blanking. Cropped lines from the superframe will turn into blanking lines for the smaller image so the panel needs to have a wide tolerance for vertical blanking for this to work. Can you share the panel specifications for the two panels here for review? Please include the full panel tolerance sheet too, not just the typical timing.

As an alternative if this does not work, then it may be possible to support these two panels using 2x independent DSI ports. But also keep in mind that the 941AS has a minimum PCLK frequency of 25MHz per port, so you will also need to ensure that the 480x240 panel can use >= 25MHz PCLK

    Best Regards,

    Casey
