DP83TD510E: Setting 1Vpp transmit level using Strap 7

Part Number: DP83TD510E

Hello,

I would like to set the 10BASE-T1L signal level from my product to 1Vpp.  The product has no microcontroller, so I cannot use the MDIO interface to set the signal level in firmware.  I must use the hardware Straps.

The DP83TD510E datasheet indicates that I can set the signal level to 1Vpp by putting Strap 7 in Mode 1.

So, I put a 2.49K pullup on pin 28 to set Strap 7 to Mode 1.

However, the signal level is 2.4Vpp.  The signal level is 1Vpp only if both my product and the device it is communicating with have a 2.49K pullup on pin 28 to set Strap 7 to Mode 1.

Is this correct behavior for the DP83TD510E?  If so, is there any way to set the signal level to 1Vpp using just the Straps in my product?

If this is correct behavior for the DP83TD510E then the description for Strap 7 needs to be rewritten to clearly indicate how it works.

Thanks,

Cyrus

  • Hello Cyrus,

10Base-T1L devices link-up in the highest swing mode requested by either of the link partners. So what you are observing is the normal behaviour. Table describes the swing request's strap setting for 510 PHY and same has to be done on the link-partner.
