PCA9546A: PCA9546A Cad footprint does not match datasheet

Part Number: PCA9546A

Hi TIer,

I downloaded the cad file for PCA9546A in RGV. As you can see below, the pin spacing is different between top/bottom and left/right. On the right is the CAD file generated for Allegro 17.2 from TI CAD site for this particular package.

The datasheet, however, has all the same spacing for the pins.

1. Does the CAD file have a problem or the PDF footprint have a problem?

2. Will you please help to provide the right cad file for me to use for OrCAD/Allegro PCB Editor v17.2+ ?

We are at the final stage for board review and caught this problem and we would really appreciate if you could help to expedite the solution.

Thank you,

Jason

  • Hi TIer,

It has been 5 days, and still no response. Would you please help to confirm the problem ASAP?

Apologies, I was just assigned this ticket today.

Looks like it's a CAD issue since the pitch is supposed to be .65

I was able to find the device in our Altium vault/server and confirmed that the pitch looks correct in the 3D view. But I'm not exactly sure how to export it. I'll talk to a colleague who is more experienced with the program to see if he knows how to fully export the model.

  • Hey Jason,

I talked to the Altium/PCB subject matter expert on our team. Here's what he said.

"I also looked at the 3D STEP file that can be downloaded from the TI website as indicated from the customer and it appears to have the correct spacing.  I did look at the footprint generated by that tool and I get the same results as the customer, so it does appear there is an error somewhere in the tool conversion.  However, they should be able to use this footprint which matches our Altium version."

Though he also went ahead and created a version for the allegro PCB editor V17.2

".  I created an Altium project with a blank board and just the latest component version of the PCA9546A.  I then converted that into an Allegro 17.2 board which seems to properly pull in the footprint.  "
