TCAN1463-Q1: Local Wake Up Inquiry

Part Number: TCAN1463-Q1

Hey Team,

My customer has a question regarding the integrated local wake up circuitry of the TCAN1463-Q1. From the customer's understanding, once a WAKE request is initiated, then the transceiver will go into standby mode. At this point (once out of sleep mode) all wake up requests are ignored. Is this understanding correct?

Are WAKE requests ONLY recognized when the transceiver is in sleep mode?

Thanks for the help!

Best,
Dajon McGill

  • Hi Dajon,

Correct. After the first wake event is recognized by either the WAKE input pin or WUP on the CAN bus, the device moves to Standby mode. Only the first wake source is saved in the WAKESR flag and all others will be ignored until the WAKERQ flag is cleared (moving to Normal mode).

Wake sources are active in Sleep, Standby, and Go-to-Sleep modes.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott

  • Hey Eric,

Thanks for the help. A couple follow-up questions.

    1. If in standby mode the only way to re-trigger a wake event is if the WAKESR flag is cleared (move to normal mode) and if not cleared it is ignored, correct?
    2. Does the above apply to all other modes as well (except for normal mode)?

  • Hi Dajon,

I believe you're understanding is right here.

    1. Once a wake event wakes the transceiver from Sleep mode to Standby mode, nFAULT and RXD will be low. INH will also be high because the device is in Standby mode. Any other wake events in this state will have no impact on the device. While the WAKERQ flag is set, the transitions to Go-to-sleep mode is blocked until WAKERQ flag is cleared. So the transciever must transition to Normal mode (or UVcc/UVio) to clear this flag before the device can go back to Sleep mode.

    2. Wake sources are not active in Normal mode or Silent mode, so wake events will not be recognized in this mode.

Let me know if this is clear or if there's part of your question I am missing.
