SN65HVD30-EP: Current consumption

Genius 13959 points
Part Number: SN65HVD30-EP

Hi Experts,

I'm having a hard-time looking for the current consumption from Vcc of the device sn65hvd30-ep.

The only instant "Icc" I could see from D/S is at page, showing 2.1mA (max) supply current of this type; and this is being tested when D is either 0V or Vcc @ no load, why?

Also, absolute rating spec shows for output current of 11mA, for receiver output current only. May we know also what's the maximum current consumption of this device (at max speed)?

Thank you for your guidance.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi Archie,

The current consumption spec here only describes the current consumed by the transceiver itself. When driving a signal on the bus, the required current will depend heavily on the bus load (termination resistance and bus capacitance) and the signaling frequency. Characteristics for this behavior are included in the graphs in the next datasheet section (7.11). Using these, you should be able to extrapolate the estimated current needs for your system given your expected loads.

Let me know if you find what you're looking for and if you have any more questions.

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
