DS90UB933-Q1: Heat dissipation

Hello Team,

My customer is using DS90UB933-Q1 in a camera device's video stream which has been glitching a lot. The part that seems to overheat on the board is this chip, and they are looking to find a heat dissipation solution. It's running at around 100C, just below max temp. Wondering if you could possibly recommend a heat sink that would fit this application?

Hi Renan,

If the device is overheating I would expect it to be resetting which is causing the video to drop out. You could try writing an unused register like 0x09 (SLAVE_ALIAS) with some arbitrary value and reading it back after the video glitch. Also there is some layout recommendations in the datasheet, and it is very important to make sure the underlying thermal pad of the device is making a good solder connection to the ground pour.

Good day, and thank you for your response. Would you recommend trying a surface-mounted heat sink on the chip? or this is not possible?

Hi Renan,

I am not very familiar with heat sinks that would be good to work with our devices. The 933 really isn't very power hungry and is in a relatively large package, is there something else next to it that is giving off a lot of heat?
