TCA9535: P00 to P07 output pins can be used for 7segment display and Alpha-numeric Display data lines as input data lines?

We are planning to connect the data lines of 7 segment display and alpha-numeric display with P00 to P07 output lines of TCA9535 as parallel data lines.

Will it be possible to send the and receive the data to the 7 segment display and alpha-numeric display using P00 to P07 port lines?

Please confirm.

Yes, this is possible if the voltage and drive strength match. Why do you have doubts?

Datasheet says that it can be used for control signals like RESET, EN or Control Inputs, INT or status outputs, LEDs, Keypad etc. However we are planning to use as parallel data I/O lines for 7 segment and alpha numeric display. so having this doubt whether we can use it as parallel I/O lines.

That sentence also says "typically", and is not an exclusive list.
