TPS25832A-Q1: About Thermal Consideration

Part Number: TPS25832A-Q1

Hi Kuno!

I hope you are doing well.

I read the referance design that you shared with me before. I am attaching the document to this mail.

temperature of the ic's quaite high even under room temperature condition. is this occured because of the circuit area? (38 mm x 41 mm) but the total pcb area is 70 mm x 50 mm.

By the way Kuno, all of these efficiency results calculated when both two side of Type-C active or only one side?

I am considering the thermal performance of the ic. I will do 2x15W Type-C Project. My board will have 57.5mmx60mm sizes and I will use a four-layer board with the copper thickness for the four layers, starting from the top of, 2 oz / 2 oz / 2 oz / 2 oz. Total thickness will be 1.6mm.

Do you foresee any thermal problem?

Best,

Mehmet ÇOBAN

  • Hi, Mehmet,

Thanks for reaching out. Due to Chinese New Year, Kuno and most of team members are in Holiday. The reply will be delayed.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Hi Mehmet,

Sorry to reply to you so late, I just come back from my CNY vacation.

For your question, yes, the temperature release need some time, but in my opinion, I think the 70℃ is ok, because our device operating junction temperature is 125℃, we have a large margin.

(temperature of the ic's quaite high even under room temperature condition. is this occured because of the circuit area? (38 mm x 41 mm) but the total pcb area is 70 mm x 50 mm. )

Only one side, but I do not think it will have a different result between two side and one side.

(By the way Kuno, all of these efficiency results calculated when both two side of Type-C active or only one side?)

In my opinion, it will be okay, because our reference design is also use the 2oz in the Top/Bottom layers.

    Thanks,

    Kuno.
