TCAN1042GV-Q1: External ESD protection

Hi,

Can I avoid using external ESD protection circuitry while using TCAN1042GV-Q1 CAN IC as it has got internal protection up to +/-16kV.

    Hi Sunney,

    This device offers a high level of ESD and bus fault protection to help improve system reliability and robustness. However, the decision to include external protection will depend heavily on the requirements of the system as a whole. For example, systems that intend to operate in particularly hard electrical environments may require higher levels of ESD protection to ensure system survivability. For systems with lower ESD requirements, it is certainly possible to rely on the integrated protection offered by TCAN1042.
