DP83TD510E: MII Interface - what do do with CRS and COL at the MAC?

Part Number: DP83TD510E

I saw from a previous post that this part does not support CRS and COL in MII mode.  This is my first time doing an MII interface.  As these signals are inputs to the MAC, what am I supposed to do with them there?

Mike.

  • Couple more things.  The MAC I am using does not support TX_ER.  What should I do with that pin on the PHY?  Also, do you recommend series resistors in any of the MII lines (for a 10Mb interface)?  If so which ones and what value?

    Thanks,

    Mike.

  • Hi Mike,

We do not CRS and COL signal. Usually these signals are not required by MAC and can be left floating. Kindly check with you MAC vendor to confirm for the detail. TX_ER is not required to be connected to PHY. By default, this pin is defined as LED pin. PHY has integrated 50 ohms termination on it's output pin so you may not need any external termination on these pins. we recommend running IBIS simulation to confirm the signal integrity.
